Day 2: Dissolving

3-tangerines

Here it is, just Day 2 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days, and I’m already tired. It probably didn’t help I was gardening for a few hours this morning before I was rained out.

I was going to continue the chicken theme and even had a new rooster sketched out. But the thought of painting feathers, even loosely, made me feel really sleepy. So I went with a tried and true method and fetched some aging tangerines for today’s subject. I go alla prima today with a still life.

On Instagram I follow this wonderful watercolor artist, Endre Penovac. His watercolor and ink works are amazing. They are simultaneously dissolving and detailed at the same time. So since I was feeling tired this evening, he was my inspiration for my very loose and dissolving tangerines. It didn’t turn out as effortless as Endre’s but it was fun to let the water and pigment flow and not try to over-control the results.

And there we go. Day 2 completed.
